this is your unit! I like it like a meat locker in my bedroom, and this unit does the trick. I had intially bought a Kenmore 12,000 BTU based on Consumer Reports and found that it blew cool air, and was quiet, but I wanted cold, icy-like air. I live in South Texas as well and have been suffering the worst heat wave and drought in history. This unit allows me to leave my house set at 79 at night, but be curled up under the covers in a very cold room at night. If I were to leave it on it would probably cool into the hall and my den. For anyone worried about noise, it runs very quietly, although I do like a little background "white noise" at night.
