Sharp AF-S125MX ENERGY STAR 12,000 BTU Air Conditioner Review

My wife and I were replacing two Panasonic Air Conditioners with two new Sharp Ones.We read that Sharp generally makes very good A/C's.

Wow were we disappointed. This A/C was so loud and did not cool the room down as well as our older Panasonic A/C's. The fan was so load that we had to turn the machine off when eating dinner because we could not have a conversation. In the bedroom it was difficult to sleep with the A/C on because of the fan.The sound is like a hair drier.

We returned these A/C's and purchased two from Amana, the only Manufacture we found who listed the noise level (50dB) on their product description. We found them are J&R the only store we found who actually has the A/C's on display connected so you can hear them.

Amana 9,000-BTU Portable Air Conditioner - AP095R Review

I bought this model for a bedroom and it takes a while to get used to the racket. The fan mode is quiet, but once the compressor kicks in to cool things down it sounds like a locomotive!

I would think twice before buying another portable unit like this one, and most certainly would not buy a second "Amana." I need some sleep, and this certainly was not considered when they designed this model a/c.

Then finally the thing went haywire!

A few months into purchase the temperature setting went to ninety nine degrees on it's own, and the unit died a fairly quick death. The warantee replaced the unit after a few thousand calls for repair, during which I had to deal with "Haier" not the "Amana Company"

Talk about things not being what the seem - it is just labeled "Amana" proving "Cheap Trick" is not just the name of a rock band.
