Hyundai Air Conditioner, 5200 BTU Review

Hyundai Air Conditioner, 5200 BTUThis small a/c is being used in a 12 x 16 foot living room (though it is rated for a smaller space). Here in Connecticut, we don't get "Texas-style" heat, but since we live by a lake, the humidity in the summer is normally in the 70-80 percent range. On a few 85-degree days (with the humidity around 75-percent), this little unit not only cooled the living room, but also managed to keep the rest of our 800 sq. ft. cottage relatively comfortable too. Also, I just received our electric bill for the month of August. Fearing the worst (I had this unit running constantly from 7 am until 9 pm every day for the first three weeks of August), I was actually pleasantly surprised. It used only a relatively small amount of electricity! It also reduced the relative humidity from ambient to around 48-percent, which is in itself, very impressive. I like the knobs for controls- as opposed to the electronic controls (just one more expensive thing to fix). My only criticism is that the "weeping holes" which allow the water to drip outside are not big enough. After a few hours, the fan housing becomes engulfed in water, which the fan then picks up and throws onto the upper part of the window. A small complaint really, but not enough to pass this gem up! When I take this unit out of the window in the fall, I will get my drill and open up the holes a little more. FYI: This unit is somewhat quieter than most, but not totally silent. The compressor and fan do make some noise, but we just turn up the TV a little bit louder to compensate. Overall: 5-stars and then some. Love it!!!
