Great item for portablity, though slightly pricey. Be warned though, I cannot recommend using this seller "Buy From The Best Inc." In dealing with them I found their customer service was unresponsive and rude. They tried to pass the buck on to amazon and expected me to do their job for them by working out the processing problems with them. When I simply told them I expect the item I paid for within 10 days, they were UNABLE to do it and actually said that asking for my item was a threat. Haha! It had already been over a week since my order was placed. Don't risk your time and money, find a better seller. I wisely cancelled my order with them, save yourself the pain in the butt!

Whynter Eco Friendly 12000 BTU Portable Air Conditioner - Platinum Review

This portable A/C works great. I sincerely doubt that it will really cool a 450 sq ft area but it does a great job for my bedroom upstairs...which is all I was really concerned with. My bedroom measures 13' x 12' or 156 sq ft and it takes about an hour to get from 85° F to 69° F. Setting it up was a breeze. The only problem I had was with the window exhaust kit. The expandable PVC plastic window mount wasn't long enough to cover the entire height of my bedroom window...it's about 5 inches too short. I had to cover that space with a piece of plastic that I cut to fit and duct taped in place. One thing I don't like about this unit is the placement of the exhaust hose...it's in the back. Some units have it on the top of the unit so that you can place the unit almost flush against the wall. The back of my unit sticks out about a foot and a half from the wall which makes getting around it a slight pain in the rear...but hey, at least I'll be cool this summer :). Another con...it doesn't have oscilating louvers. The louvers are fixed and can't be adjusted up or down. There are lateral louvers behind the front grill that can be adjusted manually from side to side with a slider. Oh...and one more thing...it's pretty loud when the compressor is running. It takes some getting used to.

If you are looking for a portable air conditioner/heat pump avoid this product and manufacturer.While the unit is satisfactory when running, once any problems develop that require service outside the warranty period, you may as well junk it.My unit lasted just 14 months and developed a leak that ruined my floor.Considering that I only used the air conditioning function during the summer, it only lasted one cooling season.

There is no local service network to fix even the most minor problem.I suppose that you could ship the unit back as was suggested by Soleusair for repair, but have you ever struggled with boxing and shipping a large unit that weighs 50 or 60 pounds, to say nothing about the premium shipping and repair cost. It is cheaply made and unreliable

I've owned and used several portable air conditioners over the years and I'm truly surprised at the speed of innovation over the last several years. Now it has come to a point where portable units have moved beyond your functional clunky beige contraption to something that has been designed to subtly blend into the surroundings. After deciding between this and a Delonghi (yes, I've finally arrived now that I can afford high-end appliances!) I decided to go with the more compact unit that was at a more affordable price point. I've been using this for about a month now and have been completely satisfied with nearly all aspects. One little gripe that I have, is the absence of handles on the side, it definitely is heavy too. It does however churn out very very cold air, look extremely slick and is a snap to use.The remote control has a myriad of functions that I will eventually use one day but for now, I just need the icey relief from a hot spring day.

Soleus Air LX-140 14,000 BTU Evaporative Portable Air Conditioner, 12,000 BTU Heater, Dehumidifier and Fan, Grey with Black Cover Review

I have tried 5 different units over 8 yeasrs (two being this one). Only one worked 1/2 way decent, and it still has problems.

This one is the most powerful 110volt portable unit there is.

In general, they all end up leaking water all over the place. None of them seem to be able to evaporate the water as fast they are supposed to. By winter, I can expect the units to leak water everywhere, and the water light never comes on.

All 5 brands are cheaply made and by the same factory even though they are from different manufacturers.

If you are looking for portable AC. Better to skip it as you'll be lucky if you find a unit that satifies your needs. IF you are insistant, go with a better built unit. Google around for a unit built in the US, most likely it will be designed for server room cooling. Most likely that will run $1000-$3000.

I am on my 5th unit and wish we had just spent the money up front instead of having to replace the unit every year as we are doing now.

These units are generally cheap and you get what you pay for. I would rate this higher if not for the water issue (I just cleared an 1/8 inch of standing water out of a 12 x 12 room).
