Klimaire 2 ton 24,000 btu/h Ductless heat pump heat & cool wall mounted room Mini Split 230 volt Super high efficiency 13 SEER air conditioner Conditioners condition Conditioning Review

Klimaire 2 ton 24,000 btu/h Ductless heat pump heat & cool wall mounted room Mini Split 230 volt Super high efficiency 13 SEER air conditioner Conditioners condition ConditioningNow that I have had this unit in for several months...I can speak to how it really works. As with most heat pump type units, it lacks the heat output during the very cold days and night, but overall, does a pretty good job in my wood shop.Be advised that you really need to keep the filters cleaned if it is used in a dusty envoironment. The cooling worked great...the building is a 24X24 with 13' ceilings.Had no issues when it was hot outside up to 95 degrees. The only issue with installation is the instructions do lack some. You cannot do it yourself as you will need a vaccuum pump from an HVAC indivdual to vaccuum out the lines when setting it up.Plus, the electrically hookups are buried inside the unit...which are not clearly expained in the manual.I was unable to locate them myself and only with great pain, did the HVAC guy even find them.In the end, I like the unit and will purchase a similiar one for my house soon.

SPT WA-1140DE Dual-Hose 11,000-BTU Portable Air Conditioner with Remote Control Review

SPT WA-1140DE Dual-Hose 11,000-BTU Portable Air Conditioner with Remote ControlIts two years since I purchased this and happened upon this link today.I remember doing a great amount of research when I bought this unit.It is NOT like the one being reviewed with 2 stars.

One key point - it has two hoses - input and output (not one like many units out there). It's very good at evaporating the water it takes out of the room (the two hoses are supposedly responsible for this efficiency). I have yet to empty the tank. The unit comes with a window package that holds the tubes in place (its made of heavy duty plastic).

As to moving it around, no big problems - it is a beast to move on the stairs, but ..... its an air conditioner, not a fan.

I normally use it to cool down a 20x20 room (9 foot ceilings). It does take longer than I'd like, but if it's a humid night, it gets the room in a "sleepable" condition in about 1 hour.

The reason for not giving it 5 stars is that the remote control gives you options that you can't get from the panel. If you lose the remote, you lose the functionality (there may be a secret set of buttons you push to get the function, I haven't figure them out yet). The manufacturer's site is lacking in docs.

Product Description:
Providing cooler, fresher air for rooms up to 350 square feet, this portable three-in-one unit functions as an 11,000-BTU air conditioner, a 51-pint-per-day dehumidifier, and a three-speed fan with auto, high, and low settings. During the cooling process, its self-evaporating system extracts water from the air into the unit. Most of this water then gets recycled and used to cool the cooling coils for more efficient operation. Excess moisture gets pushed out with the exhaust air, resulting in a virtually no-drain unit. In extreme humid conditions, if condensation collects faster than it can evaporate, the excess water will collect in the built-in tank. When the tank becomes full, the compressor automatically shuts off and the "drainage needed" indicator illuminates.
The air conditioner also comes equipped with a dual-hose system that provides fast cooling. With one hose for air intake and the other for air exhaust, there's no negative pressure created inside the room. The unit's thermostat can be adjusted from 64 to 90 degrees F, while its digital thermostat control, LCD display, and remote control ensure simple operation. Choose between continuous "on" or the programmable timer, which can be preset up to 24 hours. The unit also supplies a washable air filter, a built-in water tank or extended water tube for continuous drainage, and an easy-grip handle and casters for convenient mobility. Other highlights include fire-resistant PVC plastic housing, a rotary compressor, auto-swing louvers, an extendable exhaust hose (up to 5-1/2 feet), and Re-start IC Technology (unit restarts when power resumes after a power failure). The unit requires exhaust hose installation, and all standard accessories come included. With an energy-efficiency rating of 8.78, the 82-pound air conditioner measures 18-1/2 by 18 by 33-1/2 inches and carries a one-year limited warranty.

Haier CPRD12XH7 12,000 BTU Portable Air Conditioner with Heating Capacity Review

Haier CPRD12XH7 12,000 BTU Portable Air Conditioner with Heating CapacityI purchase this product as it gave me the flexibility to Heat and Cool and be portable. The product seems to work as claimed but it does have some quirks that could make it better. The AC requires the condensation to be stored in the unit. When full it shuts off.The drain valve is on the back.Installation through a window is a bit poor with the attachements provided.I need to make some modifications to allow it to seal on my casement window.I really wanted to go through the wall, and I may in the future but the hose sizes not standard and it makes it difficult.

The real positive of this experience is the customer service of [...].I attempted to purchase this unit from another company and although it was cheaper I cancelled the order after multiple attempts to get it shipped.I was only able to communicate to them via email and looked up the company on Better Business and they had an "F" rating.I ordered this through [...] and had free shipping and it arrive on my doorstep the next day.All I can say is WOW.

SPT WA-1230E 12,000-BTU Portable Air Conditioner with Remote Control Review

SPT WA-1230E 12,000-BTU Portable Air Conditioner with Remote ControlI bought this AC unit during the excess heat wave this summer. The unit, (once properly vented) works really well for cooling my bed room but it shuts off when the water needs drained.Durning these hot temperatures this is after only 2-2.5 hrs.Draining the water is not an easy task because the drain is only 1 inch from the floor so you can only use a really really shallow dish. It does come with a hose to connect to a drain for continous drainage but the drain must be below or at the same level as the AC unit.

This drainage problem makes the unit NOT useful for long term cooling (you can't run it all night or use it to cool while at work)

As a long term solution I am working on buidling a stand to set the unit on for continous drainage into a bucket but it is heavey and vibration makes noise a problem. Other portable AC unit have a collecting bottle which is easy to revome for drainage.

Haier HWR08XC7 8,000-BTU Window Air Conditioner with Remote Control Review

Haier HWR08XC7 8,000-BTU Window Air Conditioner with Remote ControlHave been running it for a week. Here are my observations:

1) This unit is loud. I mean it, it's LOUD!!! Even when running at minimal speed, with "energy saving" mode on. Not sure how many decibels (db) it pumps out, but it's pretty close to my vacuum cleaner. In a 200 sq.ft. room, you won't be able to sleep or watch TV or conduct a conversation with this air conditioner on, granted!

2) It doesn't cool our room (280 sq.ft) well. They say it's 8,000 BTU. Well, I would subjectively say it's closer to 6,000 than 8,000. The outcoming air is just marginally cooler than the room air. Also, the internal temperature sensor is off by about 5 degrees. Right now it shows 68'F, perhaps to look good and show that the A/C is doing it's job... However my wall room thermometer stands 72'F! Well, here in the U.S, we call this cheating. Big no-no.
Bottom line: we're returning this one back, even though we got it cheap, with 30% off the price sticker. Well, now I know why... you get what you pay.

With a cooling capacity of 8,000 BTUs, this window air conditioner helps maintain a comfortable living space during the hot and muggy summer months. The unit's simple-to-use electronic controls provide a digital time and temperature display, plus a convenient 24-hour on/off timer--great for cooling the living room right before arriving home from work or for keeping the bedroom at a perfect sleeping temperature then turning off on its own in the morning. Choose from three cool settings and three fan speeds. A full-function credit-card-size remote control comes included for changing the settings from across the room. The A/C unit also offers a dehumidification mode that removes excess moisture from the air, which helps prevent mold from growing on surfaces inside the home. Other highlights include top-discharge airflow with four-way airflow direction, an EnviroClean coil, an EER of 9.8, a safety power cord, and ultra-quiet operation. A quick-snap curtain install kit comes included for convenient installation. The air conditioner measures approximately 18-1/2 by 15-1/2 by 12-2/5 inches.

SPT SF-610 Portable Evaporative Air Cooler with Ionizer Review

SPT SF-610 Portable Evaporative Air Cooler with IonizerThere are so many things wrong with this unit that I'm surprised I've managed to remember them all. Some other reviewers have touched base on them already, but here are the details:

* You put water and/or ice in the top of the unit; you cannot put water where the ice is and vice-versa.The area where you pour water into is about 3x2 inches in size (yes, really!), while the area for ice is about 7x3 inches. You literally need a funnel or a small plastic tube to fill the unit up with water (see below). But it gets worse...

* Easily the biggest flaw: the water/melted ice goes down a tube and literally into the casing of the unit! There is no water tank, or centralized hold for liquids. The entire bottom of the unit is the "tank", if you can even call it that.

* The two cooling packs provided contain some sort of cheap coolant liquid inside of them -- they do cool quite well, but here's the problem: they'rephysically too large. The cooling packs are dropped into the bottom of the casing (where the water is), right into the water. They don't mount inside anywhere.

* The "door" for the cooling packs is too small for my hand (and I have small hands), which makes removing the cooling packs impossible. It took me a good 5 minutes using a pair of plastic pliers to grab a pack and remove it.The door is held shut with magnets, which is admittedly nice. But the door empties right into the water "tank", which means you might as well fill it up from the side and not the top! What were they thinking when they engineered this thing?!

* Water pump is a pump intended for aquariums. If you open up the back of the unit (which you have to do for water filter cleaning; see below), you can peek inside and see quite clearly printed on the pump "AQUARIUM PUMP". Most aquarium pumps I know are loud, not soft/quiet nor do they hum; and because the pump is screw-mounted to the bottom of the unit (which is plastic), I'm left thinking the entire unit must vibrate heavily when powered on.This makes you question the production quality of this item.

* Water refill line is recessed deep inside the unit due to how the plastic casing is molded; it's impossible to read, and it's incredibly important (see above) to not go above a certain fill line.If you go above the line, water will start to come out of the front of the unit, and the rear of the unit (bottom of where the air filter starts).

* The air/lint filter on the back is easily removable. However, to clean the water filter, you must remove 6 screws and proceed to wiggle/wobble plastic pieces until you pull the back of the unit out.Why screws? Why not some retention plastic, or a clip?Better yet, why not magnets like the ones used on the coolant door? You cannot remove it entirely, because attached to it (permanently) is a bright orange hose connected somewhere within the unit; it has no slack. You need 3-4 hands to do this job.

* The water filter itself is what looks to be nylon webbing, identical to what some people use in a clothes hamper. It's just some cheap mesh with some Velcro on it so you can remove it semi-easily.

* Manual states you must clean the water filter every 2 weeks.Yup, you get to disassemble the unit that often.Fun for the whole family?

* Much to my amusement, the drainage spout (if you need to drain the unit) is directly behind where the AC power cord is.Am I the only one who thinks this is a bad idea?

Should you avoid this product?Absolutely.I'm left wishing I could give this thing negative stars; seriously, SPT should be ashamed for engineering something like this.I realize it's somewhat inexpensive, but what you get for under a hundred US dollars isn't even worth it.

Product Description:
This Evaporative Air Cooler, Humidifier, and Fan is versatile, lightweight and economical. The Cooler easily rolls from room to room for use anywhere in your house or office. This Air Cooler shoots a stream of air with oscillating louvers, to evenly distribute refreshing cool air. Can also be used as a fan or humidifier if temperature is not an issue. - plus get the air cleaning benefits of the ionic air purifier. The remote control allows you to easily change settings. The Air Cooler works by endothermic reaction (a reaction that consumes heat), so this evaporative Air Cooler sucks air through a wick saturated with water. As the air flows through the wick, some of the water evaporates into the air, consuming the heat that was in the air. An air stream is then blown out the front of the unit and is considerably cooler than the current room temperature! This is not an air conditioner and therefore uses much less energy. The unit works well in dry climates; not very effective in areas with high humidity as the unit utilizes water to cool.

DeLonghi PAC W130E 13,000-BTU Eco-Friendly Portable Air Conditioner with Water Technology Review

DeLonghi PAC W130E 13,000-BTU Eco-Friendly Portable Air Conditioner with Water TechnologyI admit, I got suckered into buying this unit because of the marketing and slick featureset. What a disappointment.

I am returning it as quickly as possible, and would probably avoid Delonghi products going forward. I was trying to get information on where to buy replacement filters from Delonghi USA (& Canada), the former did not reply to several emails (USA tech support), and the latter - the Canadian support email bounced (no such mailbox). What a joke.

PROS:
Really nice & modern color scheme, graphite and silver.
Pretty blue LCD that displays everything you need to know.
Eco-friendly refrigerant
Side handles (because its very heavy)
3M Biosilver Techsystem

CONS:
VERY Noisy - sounds like an old dishwasher when cooling in Water to Air mode (swishing noise, I am guessing the rotary engine cooling off using the water).
Water refilling to get optimal cooling (to get 13K BTU) is annoying & frequent (Tested on a very hot day I had to refill it every 6 hours), I would bet that most people would give up on this eventually. Without the water, this unit does 9000 BTU in air cooling.
Huge - This thing is only portable due to the casters. Very bulky.
No Oscillating Louvers! The air is blown up in one direction, no choice.
No information on how (part#?) or where to buy the 3M filters that should be replaced once a year.
Heavy - Perhaps I'm being picky here, but this thing is so heavy (128 lbs).

What I recommend instead: The Sharp CVP10MX, as most people here (Amazon) have had a great experience with it. I recommend you have a look.

8,000 BTU Portable Air Conditioner - EdgeStar Review

8,000 BTU Portable Air Conditioner - EdgeStarSo, I live in a studio. Not verybig at all. You would think this air conditioner would be able to handle keeping it cool. Well, not so much.

Regardless of how low I set it, or how long I kept it running, it kept my studio at 78 degrees. It was actually a better deal to shut it off, open the windows/door and let the air circulate. It actually got cooler in there once I did that.

Moreover, the hose you connect to the window vent is an eye sore, and isn't flexible enough to let your place the unit somewhere convenient. So you end up having to leave the A/C unit in the middle of the room instead of neatly in a corner or against the wall because the vent hose doesn't allow otherwise.

This is pretty much the worse purchase I have made in a LONG time. Worse of all, it doesn't even make sense for me to return it. The seller charges as 12% "re-stocking fee". Moreover, I would need to carry the huge 70+lbs box up and down stairs to get it back to my work so UPS can pick it up. The box is very flimsy once you remove the nylon ribbons that it comes sealed with, and doesn't really allow you to transport it without spending some money on repackaging.

So yeah, I'm stuck with a $300 70+lbs paper weight. Good times.

[EDITED 07/30]: So I was contacted by the seller (CompactApplience) and their conclusion was that my studio was too big for the 8,000 BTU rating. They actually let me return just the A/C unit without having to worry about packing all the awkwardly-shaped pieces, and reimbursed me for everything, including shipping. Although I've decided NOT to try a different unit with a greater BTU rating, I'm leaving this review here so that hopefully people looking into buying this or any other unit are aware of the importance of considering the size of the room you're trying to cool down when you choose the unit BTU. I was remotely aware of that, but didn't look too much into it, and you saw what happened... Luckily for me, the seller handled the situation superbly well. A happy ending, after all. :)

Frigidaire FAA055P7A Compact Small-Room Air Conditioner with Remote Control Review

Frigidaire FAA055P7A Compact Small-Room Air Conditioner with Remote ControlThis is an excellent high-efficiency budget air conditioner for small to medium sized rooms. The fan speed is adjustable so that the unit can push cold air further into a room at higher speed.

I really like all the options available in the controls. You can have it run as long as you want, or you can set it to run on an internal timer or according to an internal thermostat.

The on/off button is easy to use and the whole control panel responds well to presses. I don't feel ignored by this control panel.

In addition to setting the fan speed, you can set the thermostat from 60 up to 90, or you can set the unit to run the fan only, without cooling the air.

Also, there is an energy efficient mode which turns off the cooling system when the thermostat reads the right temperature, but the fan keeps running for 3 minutes, to continue moving air over the inactive but still-cold compressor. Then at 10 minute intervals the fan turns on for another 3 minutes and continues like that until the temperature goes high enough to activate the compressor again.

There is Clean Air button that turns on a little electric air purifier in the unit. A good bonus for allergy sufferers which I keep on all the time.

There is a sleep button that works with the thermostat settings. When the sleep button is pressed, the unit continues operating. 30 minutes later, the thermostat is set 2 degrees higher. 30 minutes after that again, it is set another 2 degrees higher, so it is more efficient while you sleep. The unit will then operate with the thermostat at that higher level for 7 hours, and then turn off sleep mode automatically, returning to the original thermostat setting, before the sleep button was pressed. I don't know anyone who sleeps a full 8 hours, so the sleep mode can be deactivated with the press of the button.

The unit reminds you when to change the filter by turning on a light. The reusable filter can be rinsed clean, and the button under the filter light can be pushed to reset the timer, which runs for 250 hours of operation before lighting again.

There are two control features that I don't like so well.

First, there is the mode selection button, which controls which of the three modes you are in: "Cool", "Energy Saver", and "Fan Only". I would have preferred two buttons, to go up or down the list, instead of only down. It's a minor pet peeve for me.

Second, I think the controls beep too loud when pressed, and I don't think there is a way to adjust volume.

Another thing I dislike is how the timer can only be set in half-hour increments up to 10 hours, and then 1 hour increments up to 24 hours. I would have liked to select smaller time slices, like 10 minute intervals. That makes it a longer process to program the timer, but gives me more control. However, since I normally use the thermostat mode, this is not really an issue for me anyway.

Be careful about putting furniture directly in front of the plug. The plug itself looks good and the cord comes out the bottom, but the reset and test buttons are not placed deeply enough into the plug box, so they can be accidentally pushed. Product Description:
Designed for rooms up to 165 square feet, this energy-efficient compact air conditioner helps keep indoor air cool in the summer. Easy to operate, the unit provides a variable speed fan, eight-way air-direction control, and electronic controls with a full-function remote control for convenient programming. Choose from Cool, Energy Saver, and Fan modes. The air conditioner will automatically maintain the selected temperature ranging from 60 and 90 degrees F. In Energy Saver mode, the compressor shuts off as needed and the fan continues to run intermittently; when the room heats up past the set temperature, the compressor turns back on and begins cooling again. Choose the "fan only" option for air circulation without cooling. The air conditioner also offers auto-cool and sleep settings, a 24-hour on/off timer, and ionizer/electrostatic air filtration for cleaner air that allergy suffers will be sure to appreciate.
Other highlights include tilt-out filter access, LVC Technology (Low Voltage Compensation) to ensure proper operation when voltage fluctuates below normal levels, and a user manual that details several ideas for saving money and energy. The unit features an EER of 11 and an Energy Star rating thanks in part to its 5200-BTU cooling capacity. Choosing Energy Star products can help save up to a third on energy bills, as well as on greenhouse gas emissions. All of which means cooler indoor air without excess costs or impact on the environment. A pleated quick-mount window kit comes included for installation; the width of the open window should measure between 23 and 36 inches with a minimum height of 14 inches. The air conditioner weighs about 46 pounds, measures 14 (15-1/2 with the front) by 18-1/2 by 12-1/2 inches, and carries a full one-year warranty with a five-year limited warranty on the sealed system.
